When the Devil Knocks

Week 3: The Accuser

Pastor Trevor Sudheimer | In When the Devil Knocks

The Accuser

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NLT

  • Satan is the DECEIVER who attacks your mind with lies.

  • Satan is the DESTROYER who attacks your will with pride.

  • Satan is the ACCUSER who attacks your heart with accusations.

… no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you … Isaiah 54:17 NLT

THE ACCUSER

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Revelation 12:10

  • When the devil talks to you about God, he lies.

  • When the devil talks to you about you, he accuses.

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.   The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”  Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel.  Zechariah 3:1-3

  • The devil is the accuser.

  • Jesus is your advocate.

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 1 John 2:1 NLT

The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his [Joshua’s] filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.” Zechariah 3:4

Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by.   The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua:   “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.  Zechariah 3:5-7

  • The devil knows your name but calls you by your sin.

  • God knows your sin but calls you by your name.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.   The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
