When the Devil Knocks
Week 2: The Deceiver
Pastor Trevor Sudheimer | In When the Devil Knocks
The Deceiver
“… He [the devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44
HOW DID THE DEVIL LIE TO EVE?
THE DECEIVER QUESTIONED GOD’S WORD.
… He [the serpent] said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" Genesis 3:1
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” Genesis 3:2
When you start to question the goodness of God, it’s easier to disobey the will of God.
THE DECEIVER TWISTED GOD’S WORD.
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5
… the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword … Hebrews 4:12
His [Jesus’] head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. 15 His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. 16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. Revelations 1:14-16 NLT
